Grape Pie Contest at the Naples Grape FestivalFor all those aspiring and accomplished pie bakers out there, we welcome your entry to the World's Greatest Grape Pie Contest. Unique to our area of the Finger Lakes, Grape Pies were created in the 1950's and credited to longtime Naples resident Irene Bouchard. Joseph's Wayside Market sponsors the World's Greatest Grape Pie Contest at the Naples Grape Festival where contestants enter a freshly baked pie anonymously to be judged on Saturday afternoon by our panel to determine the winner based on taste, texture, appearance and flavor. We are thrilled to say we have had winners from every age group-teenagers to Grandma and one year Grandma and Granddaughter took 2 of the top 3 spots! The tradition continues and the 2011 applications may be obtained by downloading the PDF here or by contacting Donna Scott at 585-374-2240 or email at naplesgrapefest@yahoo.com. You may also fill out your application on the Saturday of the judging when you drop off your pie in an unmarked disposable container anytime after 9 AM. Judging begins at Noon. Winners announced at end of judging - usually 2 pm. Trophies and checks for the winners are presented at the contest. Pies must be 100% grape pies home made by the person whose name appears on the entry form.
